Ode to Dolly, the sheep, inter alia is about cloning and the human tendency to create things in the likeness of ourselves and becoming all tangled up and confused in the process. Inspired by the physiological processes of fascia –the connective tissue that organizes our musculoskeletal system, large strips of elastic wrap both the dancers and the stage space. A “dance installation”, elastics and artificial baby parts are stretched to create geometric grids, tangled canopies, and sculpturesque forms. Ode to Dolly explores our instinctual reproductive behaviors as it interfaces with artificial ideas of creation.

Choreography/Installation by Deborah Jinza Thayer with music composed by Bush fellow, Matthew Smith. Costumes by Lisa Axell, set design by Bryan Axell/3 Ring Scenic and puppetry by Deirdre Murnane. Dancers include Rachel Barnes, Sarah Jacobs, Penelope Freeh, Christine Maginnis, Kimberly Richardson, and Sharon Picasso.
